Frontier Old Fashioned

There’s nothing like a good Old Fashioned. Strong and sweet, with a few dashes of bitters, this legendary cocktail has stood the test of time, remaining popular from the mid-1800s to today. In this recipe, we put our own signature spin on the Old Fashioned to show off our Frontier Sarsaparilla Bitters by Embitterment.

Because the Old Fashioned is an extremely simple cocktail, changing any one of the main ingredients will completely reconfigure the flavor profile. So, when you swap in Frontier Sarsaparilla Bitters for the usual Aromatic Bitters, you end up with an earthy, fragrant drink that transports you to the forest with a single sip.

  • 2 oz Rye or Bourbon
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup (or one sugar cube)
  • 1-2 droppers of Frontier Sarsaparilla Bitters
  • Orange Twist garnish

If you use a sugar cube (approximately 1/2 tsp sugar), remember to add a splash of water to the mixing pint when you muddle in your bitters. This will help the sugar begin to melt before you add your whiskey and ice. Stir the ingredients until they are well chilled, mixed, and properly diluted, express the orange peel, and drop it straight into the glass.
